Stain Colours For Pressure-Treated Wood

Find the right color for your treated deck

Q: My deck is made of pressure-treated lumber but I want to add a bit of colour – what stain colours look good on treated pine? Thanks!

A: Pressure-treated wood is often left as-is without being coated in a gorgeous deck stain colour because many home-owners think you can’t use coating on top of the wood treatment. Luckily, that isn't correct. As long as you choose stains that complement the pressure-treated look you have a world of colours to choose from. Newer decks built with pressure-treated lumber should choose a light-colored wood stain because once you go dark with stain you cannot go back. Older decks, however, should choose something a little bit more of a punch of colour to help hide imperfections. Below are some great stain colours for pressure-treated decks.

Beautiful Brown

Mahogany Blaze is a gorgeous rich brown that looks wonderful on rustic treated decks. Light in color, this brown deck stain colour is designed to enhance the beauty of the wood itself and allows the grain of the wood to shine through.

Endlessly Exotic

Kona Brown is a darker, tropical-inspired wood stain colour that looks incredible on older pressure-treated decks that need a bit more coverage for imperfections. Deeply tinted with dark tones reminiscent of Hawaiian wood work, this brown deck stain colour looks great with both classic and modern styles of homes.

Mountaintop Masterpiece

Mountain Cedar is a light, sunny brown that looks great on pressure-treated decks. With notes of red and a touch of buttery yellow hues shining through the color, this great cedar-inspired finish amplifies the beauty of your deck.

Pressure-treated decks don’t have to remain their trademark green shade any longer. With a world of great colours available your pressure-treated lumber structure can be made to look just as beautiful as you’d like. To make sure you pick the right type of wood stain for a  pressure-treated deck make sure you know the type of lumber your deck was built with, whether it was kiln or air-dried to ensure proper stain adhesion (your builder or hardware store should know this), and click the link below for a great stain that will complement your pressure-treated wood.
